The sixtieth birthday of the National Health Service ought to be a time of celebration for any Labour Government. It’s widely agreed that the NHS is the party’s greatest achievement. And the fundamental principle that underlies it – that healthcare ought to be available to anyone who needs it, free at the point of use – is now an article of faith across the political spectrum.
